Info

  1. The Cleft of Dimensions Fall Deathmatch Tournament ("tourney") will take place on Thanksgiving Weekend, 2010
    1. There will be several rounds taking place over three days (November 27, 28, and 29)
      1. To enter a round you only need to show up.
      2. Players can enter as many rounds as they wish.
      3. Rounds will not be scheduled for specific times but instead will happen whenever five (5) players or more are present and ready to fight but not more often than once per hour.
  2. The Tourney shall be a free-for-all deathmatch taking place in a large corn maze
    1. For details, see #Arena
  3. All participants will have IDENTICAL characters ("fighters") before each round -- the same race, class, stats, and skills
    1. For details, see #Fighters
      1. The skill sets may be adjusted between rounds but all fighters will be the same when the round starts
    2. The fighters will be generated beforehand and the passwords handed out immediately before the round starts so that the participants can log in with their fighters
    3. The fighters will have unique names (first and second letters at least) to avoid ambiguity in targeting each other
    4. Before each round, participants will have the opportunity to purchase a limited number of extra usable items for their character
      1. For details, see #Items
  4. Players that do well in the tourney rounds will receive points
    1. Players will receive one point for each other player they kill -- landmine and timebomb kills count!
      1. If two fighters are attacking the same target, the points go to the one that made the final blow -- kill stealing is okay!
    2. Players will also receive (total fighters / 2, rounded up) bonus points if they are the last player alive in a round
    3. Players also receive one point for each round they participate in
    4. If two or more players conspire to both survive the round and refuse to kill each other then they will receive NO points for the round regardless of how many other people they killed
      1. Teaming-up is otherwise allowed, so long as everyone except one guy dies in the end
    5. Players automatically receive 1 point for every round they participate in.
  5. Players will receive rewards for their normal characters based on how many points they earn
    1. For details, see #Rewards

tl;dr: show up thanksgiving weekend, kill people, get phat loot

Fighters

All fighters will take the form of a level 40 human with 800 hp, 100mv, and no mana.

Fighters have an exotic weapon which deals 10d7 (average 40) slashing damage per round. They are also equipped with a piece of armor that provides 100 armor score and a shield which provides 25 armor score, for a total of -25 armor score (95% damage, 123% without the shield).

Skills

Dmskills.png

Fighters have the following skills, all at 100%:

trip, overpower, defend, handspring, grapple, suplex, piledriver, and lunge

Note that one combat round is equal to 16 beats of lag.

  • Trip - Lag: 12
Syntax - trip (target)
Trip attempts to knock the opponent off his feet, dealing minor damage but knocking the opponent to the ground and dazing him momentarily. It can be used either during combat or to initiate combat.
  • Overpower - Lag: 6
Syntax - overpower (target)
The Overpower skill is an opportunistic assault which works best on a Dazed opponent. It does awful damage and has poor speed during normal combat, but when used many times rapidly on a Dazed foe, it can generate a lot of damage. This skill will not work on an opponent who is not Dazed and using this skill on a non-dazed opponent will incur lag.
  • Defend - Lag: 6
Syntax - defend
This skill takes the user into a defensive posture for one to two combat rounds. While in a defensive posture, the user takes 25% damage from all attacks but cannot initiate attacks of his own. Additionally, the user's status counts as 'sitting' for the duration of the skill, conveying all modifiers that sitting normally would in combat.
  • Handspring - Lag: 16
Syntax - handspring
Use handspring to vault off the ground and kick your opponent in the face, dealing damage. Handspring can only be used while on the ground, and it has a chance to knock your opponent to the ground and daze him. The defend state can be cancelled into a handspring attack. Handspring attacks also cancel Daze on the user.
  • Grapple - Lag: 8
Syntax - grapple
By using the grapple skill, the player attempts to lock down his opponent with a wrestling move. While grappling, automatic combat is disabled for both the player and his target. Both characters can still attempt special skills, although damage dealt by the player to the target will break the grapple hold.
The suplex and piledriver moves can only be used on a grappled opponent.
  • Suplex - Lag: 24
Syntax - suplex (direction)
Using suplex, the player lifts his opponent and attempts to chuck him into an adjoining room, dealing damage. If no appropriate exit exists, the opponent will collide with a wall instead. Suplexed opponents may collide with other characters when they land. Suplex can only be used on a grappled opponent.
  • Piledriver - Lag: 16
Syntax - piledriver
The user flips his opponent upside-down and smashes his head into the canvas, dealing heavy damage and bringing both user and opponent to the ground. Piledriver will daze the opponent or, if he is already dazed, it will cause confusion. Piledriver will not work if the opponent is already on the ground. Piledriver can only be used on a grappled opponent.
  • Lunge - Lag: 32
Syntax - lunge (target)
Lunge executes a daring attack, dealing three times your weapon's regular damage in a single strike. However, the user will incur substantial combat lag and also be dazed for several subsequent rounds.

Arena

The arena is laid out on a grid of 25 rooms and is radially symmetrical:

[X]-[ ]-[ ] [ ]-[X]
 | | | |
[ ]-[ ] [ ]-[ ] [ ]
     | | |
[ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[ ]-[ ]
 | | |
[ ] [ ]-[ ] [ ]-[ ]
 | | | |
[X]-[ ] [ ]-[ ]-[X]

When a match begins, each exit from the staging ground leads to one corner or edge of the arena. If you fail to enter the arena quickly enough after the match begins, you will be placed in the center.

A cannon in each corner will instantly blast you to the opposite corner at a cost of 50hp, but cannot be used while fighting. To use a cannon, type activate cannon or just 'act can'.

Items

Each fighter starts with 6 gold coins, and most items cost 1 gold. Items can be spawned randomly during the match, but you can't loot unused items from another player when you beat them (because corpses aren't created in arenas).

a land mine
Syntax: hold mine, use mine
Details: Usable once, creates an invisible land mine in the room that deals 250-275 damage to the next person that walks into the room. You can trigger your own mine, so be careful! Requires an empty hand.
a time bomb
Syntax: hold bomb, use bomb
Details: Usable once, creates a time bomb in the room that deals 325-350 damage to everyone in the room when it explodes. The timer is 8 to 12 seconds, and it will also damage the person that put it down, so be careful! Requires an empty hand.
a healing potion
Syntax: drink healing
Details: Restores 25% of your maximum HP. Will not overheal. Healing potions cost twice as much as other items.
an invisibility potion
Syntax: drink invisibility
Details: Makes you invisible for about 90 seconds. You will become visible again if you attack anyone, though!
a float bottle
Syntax: drink float
Details: When consumed, you will float above the ground for about two minutes. While floating, you are immune to the 'trip' skill and take no damage when landing after using an arena cannon.
some Inviso-Detect goggles
Syntax: wear goggles
Details: When worn, lets you see any invisible opponents or items. The 'scan' command will let you see nearby invisible opponents as well, including already-armed land mines. Inviso-Detect goggles cost twice as much as other items.

Rewards

Leet items, TBD

SOPHIA THE 3RD's control panel
An event item, related to the control of an associated tank-like vehicle: the control panel is the key (required item) to drive the tank
  • Used with no tank around: creates a tank
  • Use the item with the tank in the same room: puts the tank away
  • Used with the tank in a different room: nothing!
  • Used while driving the tank: a special attack!

Running a Match

  1. Give each player participating the name of a fighter character along with the password
Once all fighters have logged in,
  2. goto room 1899
  3. make sure the red button (mob 1903) is in room 1899
  4. make sure the _arenaitemspawner (mob 1904) exists somewhere
  5. type 'mwhere landmine' to check for leftover landmines
  6. push the red button
the button also causes the item-spawning vortex to go through the entire arena and junk any leftover items, body parts, etc
don't push the button if there's a match in progress or you'll mix everything up
  7. count kills until all fighters are dead but one (start an auto-log if you want to make sure you don't miss anything)

Fighters that log in after a match has started won't be able to participate in that match

Scores

  • Bold scores mean this person was the last one standing at the end of the match.
