Shrike is a city and also an island off the eastern coast of [[Guardia]].

Shrike fell into the Cleft around the year 280 with most of its population and infrastructure intact, forming an island in the [[Western Sea]].

Nakajima Robotics is the organization mostly responsible for the
development of robot technology, if you exclude [[Reploids]]. The
robots developed by Nakajima are mostly used for industrial
purposes, able to survive in harsh environments or perform work
that is otherwise impossible for the average person. The robots
are more machinelike, as giving them a consciousness and putting
them to labor would anger the Reploid populations.

Monotoli Building

The Monotoli Building is a skyscraper in [[Shrike]] with at least a hundred stories. It is owned by Mr. Monotoli. I don't know if he built it and named it after himself or if he bought it from someone else and renamed it.

Monotoli Inc. is a corporation whose headquarters are located within the Monotoli Building. They are
heavily invested in multiple projects worldwide, often related to
research and development.

Dr. Wily's Lab

Dr. Wily's Lab is a large building on the northwest side of [[Shrike]]. There are robots there.

==Sights==
While [[Nakajima Robotics]] creates robots for manual labor like construction and mining, Dr. Wily's lab produces companion-type robots for working directly with people. They aren't exactly [[Reploids]] but they're close enough.

==Inhabitants==
The only two employees of the lab are Dr. Wily and his colleague, Dr. Light. They are assisted by numerous robots and androids in their work.

Their achievements are widely recognized, even by the Reploid community. Doctors Light and Wily were
employed by [[Shrike|Nakajima Robotics]] for a decade before being fired,
because Wily was found siphoning resources and funds from other
projects. Light has claimed ignorance to his partner's wrongdoings
since and their personal and professional relationship has since
been shaky.

Doctor Light now owns his own laboratory in Shrike where he
continues developing robot technology for public projects.

Doctor Wily has been arrested several times under charges of
conspiracy and illegal distribution of arms and weaponized robots.
He has been acquitted every time. He is also under investigation
by the [[Final Weapon|Repliforce]] under charges of reploid slavery.

Carsanquay

Carsanquay is the God of Memory and Invention. He is
perhaps the primary figure responsible for stabilizing the
environment of the Cleft, though he is often also considered
responsible for the creation of the Cleft (if by accident). In his past dimension,
he was working on a project with a group of scientists utilizing
pocket-sized dimensions. The cataclysm from the testing process
resulted in the creation of the Cleft. Ever since then, Carsanquay
has worked on projects that would only further enhance the Cleft.
It is unknown how many inventions he has created, because he is
very reclusive and has several hidden laboratories, some of which
not even the other gods know of.

Hi. I'm Carsanquay and I know everything.

Well, practically everything. If I knew everything, it wouldn't have taken
me so many days to get this hunk of junk computer system up and running. I
don't know if this log will ever be read by anyone, but, as a scientist,
I've always considered it good practice to keep records of everything.
Professional state of affairs and all that. I'll keep this log updated
until the batteries run out. Or until I die. Most likely one of the two.

Hmm... but where to begin? An awful lot of stuff has been happening, what
with the end of the world and all.

----

It all started back in Portravia, where I worked as a theorist in the local
research laboratory. Moogles weren't very common back there, especially as
scientists. We had a very big project going on. Great funding, legitimacy,
everything a scientist could hope for. See, our world was fraught full of
adventurers. Adventurers, being the type who traveled a lot, needed to
carry things with them. Lots of things. The solution? A bottomless
backpack! By utilizing a miniature pocket dimension, we could make
backpacks to hold practically infinite amounts of objects at virtually no
weight.

Well, it seemed brilliant at the time.

Have you ever heard of something called a Verneshot? It's a geological
phenomenon involving a supervolcano. See, somewhere, a volcano erupts with
massive force. Such massive force that it sends a small chunk of the planet
hurtling into the atmosphere, which then acts as a meteor and slams into the
earth elsewhere. Horrible stuff. Creates mass extinctions, global
devastation, and so forth.

It really was just a bad coincidence. There we were, testing our pocket
dimension generator for the first time, when a rather large chunk of the
South Ocean crashed into our laboratory.

Unfortunately for mostly everyone back in Portravia, that was the end of
the world. Although I didn't see it myself, my world was likely soon
covered with an impenetrable cloud of dust, darkening the world and ending
all life. Massive seismic disturbances would rend the planet apart. A
horrible end for the masses. Fortunately for some of us, something peculiar
happened.

The exact physics of the event... well, I'm still investigating that. It's
very confounding. But the immense kinetic force of the inbound Verneshot
combined with the dimensional flux from our experimental apparatus created
a... let's call it a 'flaw' within reality. A gap between dimensions. Space,
where there was none before. An empty place between universes. We eventually
began to call it the Cleft. A chance occurrence that rightfully should never
have happened.

Now, you see, this dimensional 'flaw' caused odd phenomena. Rifts opened
across the world (and, as it would turn out, across dimensions), sucking
matter into them. There'd be a flash, and a tree was gone. Or a person, or a
continent. In this fashion, some people were saved from the armageddon of our
world, transferred to the Cleft between dimensions. Most of my research team
survived due to this - our laboratory was ripped out of Portravia and into the
Cleft. We were the lucky ones.

...I have to cut this short. Something's wrong with the gravity monitoring
system, and it needs my attention.

The Bequerel Mines are a series of caves in the [[Myrkur Mountains]], accessible through a brief walk from the east gate of [[Viorar]]. It is one of the primary sources of income and resources for Viorar. The mine's primary resources are copper and a special rock that emits light, which is heavily used by those who live under the influence of the nearby night-rendering [[Mana Stone|Mana Stone of Moon]].

== Sights ==

There isn't much to see in the mines, other than the ore that laborers have been digging up. Several mine shafts have been abandoned over the years as they have been used up. Supposedly one of these mine shafts has a secret tunnel.

== Travel ==

Bequerel Mine has a main tunnel that cuts straight through the Myrkur Mountains. It connects to another set of caverns called the [[Chimp Caverns]], which in turn connect to the east side of the mountain range, into [[Arlia]]. Travel through the tunnels is theoretically faster than going across the [[Luon Highway]], but is not recommended for those not hauling all their things on their own person, as the eastern caverns are poorly maintained and often reach dangerous air quality levels.

== Inhabitants ==

Nobody lives in the mines, but many people work there. A few small hard-hat robots constantly dig in the mine and various small rock-like animals call this place home.

== Law, Government, and Politics ==

Bequerel Mine is owned by private investors located in Viorar and operated by city planners. Though the mines are open for public use, the vast majority of diggers are employed by the city.
