The Sulfataska Mountains (which include the active Barrel Volcano) are a string of volcanic mountains south of the Guardia Fields.

They form a natural barrier between the kingdoms of Guardia and Fa'Diel.

Mongrelia
Mongrelia is a tiny village just barely on the Guardia side of the Sulfataska Mountains.

Travel
The Sulfataska Mountain trail is interesting in that it connects Barrel Volcano, Guardia Fields, Mongrelia, The R-Y Factory Ruins, and Mabe Village. The roads are wide enough for vehicles, although there are no airships, trains, or other public transportation.

A round spaceship has been seen in the skies above the mountains occasionally.

Inhabitants
The areas is mostly populated by wildlife, although the small town of Mongrelia is nestled just near the border.

The Cleft of Dimensions has a real-time weather system which creates and tracks weather systems across the entire game over time.

Weather in a given room has 'wind' and a 'sky' AKA humidity/precipitation variables. These both range from 0 (low) to 4 (high), giving 25 possible weather conditions (dry and stale with no wind to a hurricane-like downpour). Temperature is not tracked by the Cleft's weather system.

Each area and even each room can have its own modifiers to the conditions that the weather system provides. For example, a room with a +1 wind modifier will be more windy than another room in the same area.

The weather system updates every four ticks.

* Weather affects a lot of Geomancer spells.
* Weather can slightly modify the damage output of some Wizard spells.
* The Ranboob race's special ability allows them to photosynthesize sunlight and absorb rainfall to survive instead of eating or drinking normally.

The Cleft of Dimensions is a real-time game. Even if nobody is online, the world is in motion and time marches forward.

Pulses
One Pulse is about four seconds. Almost everything in the game happens on pulse timing or multiples of it.

The duration of affects on characters and rooms is measured in pulses. A character's natural HP, MP, and MV recovery happens on pulse timing also. See Statistics for more info on how these gains are calculated.

Ticks
One Tick is about one minute. The duration of affects on items is measured in ticks.

Every four ticks, the weather system updates.

Beats
One Beat is 1/16 of a pulse, or about 1/4 of a second. Beats are used for input lag from skills and spells. When a skill or spell is used, a character can't input any more commands until the lag wears off; additional commands entered will be queued up instead.

Day and Night
Each day has 24 hours. The sun always rises at 5am and sets at 7pm, regardless of season or latitude.

Time in the Cleft of Dimensions runs on a schedule that is significantly faster than the real world. One in-game hour is about as long as one real-life minute.

At night, outdoor areas will become dark. Players without dark vision will require a light source to see properly, regardless of current weather or moon phase.

The day/night cycle affects many spells, but mostly ones belonging to the Geomancer class and its subclasses.

Days of the Week
There are seven days in every week:
*Mana Holy Day
*Luna's Day
*Salamando's Day
*Undine's Day
*Dryad's Day
*Jinn's Day
*Gnome's Day

These are cyclical and since the months are of a fixed length that is a multiple of seven, Mana Holy Day will always be the first, eighth, fifteenth, and twenty-second day of every month, with the other days being similarly predictable.

The Mana Spirits Lumina and Shade don't have days named after them. This is so that the days of the week coincide with the elemental innates available to characters.

Months and Years
There are twelve months to the year, and they are named normally (January, February, etc). Each month has exactly 28 days, for a total of 336 days every year.

In-game years are not actually counted by the game. Year numbers mentioned in the History article and other places have no relevance to gameplay.

Lunar Cycle
While months last 28 days, the lunar cycle is only 27 days. The moon doesn't exert any tidal forces on the oceans of the Cleft, but the Saiyan race's special ability relies on the moon's phase.

One Time Mage spell (Lunatic) is improved when the moon is closer to full.

The Surface of the Cleft is spherical like any normal planet but there are some things that hang in the heavens high above.

It's not certain whether these celestial bodies are truly celestial bodies or whether they are just illusions/constructs/mana spirits. Theoretically, the dimension of the Cleft should extend infinitely into the void, so, at the very least, we have room for any celestial bodies we like. Note: even if the void is infinite, it doesn't mean that the whole thing is filled with stars! Any stars that are in the Cleft are probably either created by the immortals or brought here from other dimensions in the cataclysmic events that created this place.

Note that Final Weapon is somewhere in space, in orbit.

Constellations
The Cleft has a series of constellations, and the visible constellations vary depending on what time of year it is. Here are our current constellations:
* North Star, Raphael the Raven
* The Sword of Mana
* The Pool of Stars
* Fortissimo the fallen
* The Chimes of Aquilon
* Queen Diana of diamonds
* Chain of Hope, Sarai's brilliantly shining constellation

The Moon
The Cleft also has a moon. The lunar cycle is 27 days. The new moon occurs on the 1st day of the cycle and the full moon occurs on the 14th day. These are hardcoded facts.

Assuming Luna Moon Base is part of the Cleft, the moon must be real enough to be habitable.

For more information, see Time.

The Sun
A sun also appears to be in the Cleft's outer space. It works like any regular sun, rising in the east and setting in the west. Solar luminosity is pretty much constant throughout the Cleft, weather aside.
