Gnome's Day
The reploid girl sat alone in the square, eyes closed as usual, body rigid and almost immobile. Only the faintest of breaths betrayed the fact she was alive, and not just a strange statue. She was lost in thought, trying to remember why she was here. She knew where she was supposed to be - she had been destined to be a member of the 0 Unit, another fighter for the Hunters of Kapcom. But something had gone wrong...
---
Arisa danced around the training room, blades flashing in the fluorescent lights. She rebounded off a wall and cut through another practice target with ease, before whirling around to face the next.
Two scientists watched from a corner of the room, both men taking notes on the clipboard. Finally, midway through another lunge by Ari, one turned to the other. "...Somehow, she frightens me..."
The taller man blinked. "Why, Taneka-san? She's our creation, what have we to fear?"
The first man just stared at the leaping, whirling Reploid. "It's just... you can tell she doesn't care. It seems like she'd turn those blades on us without a moment of remorse..."
The second man sighed and ran his hand through his hair. "Taneka-san, she's just like that because we have her in testing mode. Once we load the personality programs, she'll be 'normal'. Probably perky, actually."
Taneka sighed. "Why can't we load the personality info -now-, Yamada-sama?"
"It's easier to test her full combat capabilities while she's like this. Tell you what... we'll load the data tonight, OK?"
"...Fine..."
---
That night, halfway through the uploading of the thing that would make her 'normal', a portal had appeared and slowly dragged the unconscious Reploid girl in...
She had awoken here, vague hints of... 'emotion'... still in her mind. She had no idea where here was, nor why she could almost feel something at the back of her mind, a strange emptiness...
Finally she was able to pin a name on the fluttering scrap of emotion, the chunk of corrupted data.
Loneliness...
