The Ancient Cave is a labyrinth of strange property - five mazelike floors in total, and the floors are randomized every real-time day. The Ancient Cave is rewritten daily by a purpose-trained GPT-2 model called GPTuna. The maze layout is generated daily by mazelib (h/t the JollySin).
Content
The Ancient Cave consists of five levels each with 25 rooms. Each level has a random mazelike layout with random descriptions, with the descs of each level written by GPTuna and seeded by Lilly's template descs. The levels are connected by a boss room and a treasure room, and the final boss room links to the final layer's treasure room.
Players have 900 pulses, which translates to about an hour. If you run out of time or disconnect from the MUD, you will be ejected from the Ancient Cave.
You get 1000 exp for finishing all five levels, but this can only be awarded every 20 player levels.
Access
Players level 5 or higher can access the Ancient Cave on Cinnabar Island. Tickets to Cinnabar Island can be purchased for 300 silver at the Altamira Boardwalk ferry dock. Once on Cinnabar Island, an Ancient Cave lanyard can be purchased from the receptionist for 1 silver.
Only one group of up to four players or mobs (including pets) can be in the Ancient Cave at any given time.
Generation
The admissions assistant on Cinnabar Island resets the Ancient Cave every -1.5 realtime days. GPTuna pushes a new Ancient Cave layout to the CoD server every realtime day. When the admissions assistant activates, every room flaged "randomizable" from vnum 13275 to 13432 gets updated. Players and mobs currently in the maze will experience the layout warping around them but suffer no adverse effects.
The first room vnum on each layer is always the entrance. The second room vnum is always the exit. Up to 25 rooms are used in each layer, and it's usually all of them.
The boss and treasure rooms are currently unused.
Mobiles
As each level of the dungeon is created, a mob will briefly wander around the level and spawn random mobiles with the Aperture Schism spell. These mobiles will have their normal wealth and drops, and may or may not be aggressive! The spawned mobs' maximum level starts at the same as the player's, but increases by 1 each floor down. This means that the mobiles will become slightly more difficult as the player travels towards the exit.
The Aperture Schism spell is similar to Cleft Rift. It creates a random mobile between the caster's level and the caster's level minus 5. It won't summon anything that's immune to summon, charm, or is a shopkeeper, and will tag the mob as being part of the Ancient Cave.
