Axl is a reploid that used to have a Copy Chip, which let him shape-shift into enemies whose "DNA" he had copied or some such.

He fought alongside the Truce Militia against the Koopa Troops.

His copy chip got infected later and he had to get it forcibly ripped out, which left him severely dyslexic as well.
